Mojave Desert Land Trust Organizes Mojave Monuments Supporters to Respond to Department of the Interior Call for Public Comment

Joshua Tree, CAToday, the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) launched the next phase of its Desert Defenders campaign to protect the new California desert national monuments.

MDLT has led local organizing in response to President Trump’s executive order that threatens the protected status of Sand to Snow and Mojave Trails National Monuments. On the morning of the executive order, they launched their Desert Defenders campaign to encourage supporters to call their representatives and show support for their national monuments. In addition to supporter calls to elected officials, over 50 local leaders wrote letters of support for the defense of the national monuments. On May 8, MDLT held a rally in support of the national monuments with over 250 attendees.

Today the Department of the Interior opened a public comment period for the national monuments under review, including Mojave Trails and Sand to Snow. In response MDLT has launched a new effort to rally supporters of the Mojave Monuments to register their public comment.

“These monuments exist because our community fought for them for years. We know that our monuments provide great value to our area, and supporters of the Mojave Monuments are ready to fight to protect them.” - Danielle Segura, Executive Director, MDLT.

Supporters of Mojave Trails and Sand to Snow can go to MDLT.org/DesertDefenders to register their support.

The Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to protect and care for lands with natural, scenic and cultural value within the Mojave Desert. For more information, visit www.mdlt.org
