Coyote Hole passes into Native American hands (Hi-Desert Star)

Community members have been working to protect a 30.25-acre plot in Joshua Tree rich with Native American history and on May 22, the county Board of Supervisors authorized the conveyance of the land to the Native American Land Conservancy, a group that aims to protect the history of the site.The state of California issued the title of the land to San Bernardino County in the late 1970s to use for flood control. The site, now referred to as Coyote Hole, was later identified as former Native American land and is home to a number of ancient petroglyphs, so it was never put to use.Read Full Article
