The Mojave Desert Discovery Garden is located at the Mojave Desert Land Trust Headquarters; 60124 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree California, 92284. The parking lot is positioned at the corner of Highway 62 and Olympic Road. The entrance to the parking lot is on Olympic Road.
When you enter the parking lot, turn left (south), and then turn right (west) at the southeast corner of the building. The parking lot runs along the south side of our building. The entrance of the building faces the parking lot. There is one designated accessible parking space at the west end of the parking lot, closest to the garden entrance. The paths throughout the garden are compacted dirt approximately 5 feet wide. There is an upper level with an incline and slightly rougher terrain.
Below is a list of each section of our garden and where they are located within the garden:
Colorado Desert: Along the southwest corner of our building and north of the Saltbrush Scrub section (separated by a dirt path). The Colorado Desert section wraps around the west side of the building. There is a seating area at the southwest corner of the building.
Saltbrush Scrub: Along the north side of the parking lot. The Saltbrush Scrub section is east of the majority of the garden. It is in front of the southwest corner of our building.
Desert Wash: South of the garden entrance, east of the Palm Oasis.
Palm Oasis: West of the Desert Wash garden.
Chaparral Transition Zone: West of the Palm Oasis.
Hummingbird Garden: Directionally north of the Palm Oasis. The Hummingbird Garden is a peninsula that runs through the center of the garden.
Ethnobotanical Garden: East of the Hummingbird Garden. The Ethnobotanical Garden is between the Hummingbird Garden and the Colorado Garden.
Joshua Tree Woodland: West of the Hummingbird Garden. The Joshua Tree Woodland garden has stairs on its south edge that leads to an upper level that is slightly rougher terrain. There is a seating area along the east edge of the Joshua Tree Woodland garden.
Creosote Scrub: On the upper level of the garden that is accessible via the stairs on the south side of the Joshua Tree Woodland garden, there is a section of Creosote Scrub that marks the westernmost boundary of the Discovery Garden.
Butterfly & Moth Garden: Directionally north of the Joshua Tree Woodland section. The Butterfly & Moth Garden is a peninsula that extends from the Joshua Tree Woodland section. There is a seating area on the south edge of the Butterfly & Moth garden.
Native Bee Garden: North of the Butterfly & Moth Garden and west of the Colorado Desert section.
Desert Tortoise Habitat: North of the Native Bee Garden.
Cactus & Succulent Garden: North of the Native Bee Garden and west of the Desert Tortoise Habitat.
Bathrooms: Inside our main building. The front door is north of the parking lot. Please check with reception.
