Where can you go in the Morongo Basin to experience the outdoors for free? What is there to learn from the natural environment around us?
Join the Mojave Desert Land Trust for a fun-filled morning to learn about locations you can visit for free around Yucca Valley and how to safely explore the desert environment. Find out how being outside can improve our health and discover how you can become a community scientist by sharing your nature observations.
This community event will take place at Jacob’s Park in Yucca Valley. At 11 am, attend a special talk by Mary Cook-Rhyne, Education Programs Manager of the Mojave Desert Land Trust. Visit different booths to collect maps and giveaways, and receive information about unique desert fauna, native flora, and local public lands. There will be games for children. The event will be fun for the whole family!

Acompaña a Mojave Desert Land Trust en una mañana llena de diversión en la que conocerás lugares que puedes visitar en la zona y cómo explorar el terreno desértico de forma segura. Comprueba de qué forma benefician las actividades al aire libre a la salud y descubre cómo convertirte en un(a) científico(a) comunitario(a) al puedes compartir tus observaciones sobre la naturaleza.
A las 11 de la mañana, asista a una charla especial sobre lugares para visitar de forma gratuita y visita los diversos puestos para recolectar mapas y obsequios, y reciba información sobre la fauna única del desierto, la flora nativa y las tierras públicas locales. Habrá juegos para niños. ¡El evento será divertido para toda la familia!

Mary Cook-Rhyne, Education Programs Manager, Mojave Desert Land Trust
Mary is an environmental educator who is also the mother of two school-aged children. She is passionate about helping families learn more about the importance of getting outside together to better improve mental health, family connectedness, and outdoor safety. She is an avid hiker and loves to visit local free areas and city parks. Mary wants families and individuals to learn more about the opportunities the desert holds for mental health and environmental conservation.

Mary Cook-Rhyne es educadora ambiental y madre de dos hijos en edad escolar. Le encanta ayudar a que las familias aprendan más sobre la importancia de salir juntos al exterior para contribuir a mejorar la salud mental, la conexión familiar y la seguridad en exteriores. Es una excursionista apasionada a la que le encanta visitar zonas locales gratuitas y parques de la ciudad. El objetivo de Mary es que las familias y las personas conozcan mejor las oportunidades que ofrece el desierto para cuidar la salud mental y conservar el medio ambiente.
