MDLT and Mojave Business Organizations Run Newspaper Ads Urging Interior Secretary Zinke to Not Change the New Mojave National Monuments

Joshua Tree, CA  Today, the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) placed full-page color newspaper ads defending Sand to Snow, Castle Mountains, and Mojave Trails national monuments in the San Bernardino Sun, Victorville Daily Press, Barstow Desert Dispatch, and the Daily Inter Lake, a Montana paper in Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's home district. The ads call on Representative Paul Cook and Secretary Zinke to protect the Mojave Monuments, and the economic benefits these monuments bring to our local communities.  Later this week, additional ads will run in The Hi-Desert Star, Desert Trail, and The Flathead Beacon.

By running the ads in Secretary Zinke’s home state of Montana, the organization is taking the voices of the Mojave directly to where the Secretary gets his news."Residents and business owners in the Mojave have been loud and clear: They support continued protection of our new national monuments, and do not want any changes made to the monument boundaries," said Danielle Segura, executive director, MDLT. "Local voices deserve to be recognized, and these ads help make them heard. We hope Rep. Cook and Secretary Zinke are listening."

The ads were signed by Joshua Tree Gateway Communities, the Morongo Valley Chamber of Commerce, California Association for Micro Enterprise Opportunity, Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau, Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce, the Latin Business Association, and over 100 local businesses who stand in favor of the national monuments and their existing boundaries.
