Joshua Tree, CAToday, President Trump will sign an executive order instructing the Department of the Interior to review the designations of national monuments under the Antiquities Act. This executive order threatens the protections for the three California Desert national monuments – Castle Mountains, Sand to Snow, and Mojave Trails – designated in 2016 using the Antiquities Act.

Statement from the Mojave Desert Land Trust:
“This executive order directly threatens the health and well-being of the Mojave Desert and surrounding communities. Just over a year ago three new national monuments were established in the California desert, protecting the unique ecological and cultural heritage of the land, as well as giving surrounding communities an opportunity to benefit economically from increased tourism.

“The Mojave Desert Land Trust has fought to protect this desert. And we are prepared to fight against this latest attack upon our shared public lands and local communities.” – Danielle Segura, Executive Director, MDLT
