Victorville Daily Press: Heritage Fire damages conservation area along Mojave River
A fire burning in Oro Grande has damaged a 3.5-mile long conservation area along the Mojave River where endangered and threatened species are known to live, according to an environmental nonprofit.
The Mojave Desert Land Trust said the Heritage Fire spread into the area known as Palisades Ranch on Monday, the day the blaze started.
Although the full extent of the damage is unknown, the group said early reports indicated the fire had “damaged sections of the riparian area and dense cottonwood-willow tree canopy.”
